It certainly was a gamble the CIA took on – that much is certain.

After what happened in China when an absolute hurricane of repressed hate and rage against the slavemasters began to surface, they knew they had a problem.

What if America revolted again?

They couldn’t take it happening a second time, so… they took steps. They gambled, they tried to roll the hard six, betting that they could get control of men’s minds before anything untoward might happen. They used any and every means they could, especially under the umbrella-project called MKULTRA, but that was by no means the full extent of their experiments going on America.

But, America was not China. They couldn’t just kill 45 million people with a staged famine, or start rounding up people and just executing them – and not have a full-scale revolution on their hands, most likely correctly aimed at them yet again.

No, this was a very delicate problem. Not the least reason of which was that we were their personal billy clubs they used around the world – not that they told us that – and without a willing America they would be literally up shit creek without a paddle.

They needed us.

This doesn’t mean they were not above doing the kind of enforced torture and illegal holding of persons that went on in the so-called “communist” Russia and China – they did that here. They called these illegal jails “mental hospitals” and covered it all up under a “mental health” campaign said to be for all the very best reasons.

Again, they needed us – especially the bright, the strong, the innovative and the independent. That is where they began gambling on what could they get away with, and what was the risk/reward ratio to gain the ultra-desirable control of men’s minds, their hearts, and most importantly – their decisions.

Did they succeed?

Well, when you’re done reading this I’ll ask that question again.

– – –

What kind of people –

What kind of people, Cathy Mitchell asked herself, could get caught up in something like Synanon?

Her first discovery was how articulate and forthcoming the ex-members were. Several had no hesitation in talking about Synanon violence and financial chicanery.

…Crawford testified to having taken pictures for Synanon’s legal department of victims before and after they were beaten [by Synanon members]. He had done this several times, and the next day I brought up one of the beatings and asked how he had reacted at the time. “I was sick to my stomach,” Crawford told me. “Most of us who were there were too ashamed and upset to talk right after it happened.”

All felt they had moved into Synanon because of idealism or other sound motivations and that Synanon had betrayed them.

The Light on Synanon by Dave Mitchell, Cathy Mitchell and Richard Ofshe. The Light was a newspaper out of Point Reyes, Marin County, California

Betrayal…is a tricky thing when you’re talking about a slavemaster front group. I say that because any of them were never about what they said they were, right from the beginning. The hard truth here is that was perceivable about them, in the first instant of contact. I know I perceived it, and I refuse to believe that I am just “special” that way. If I’m special, it’s only because I don’t ignore right perceptions, and that’s a decision, one that all scientologists had to make.

Caveat: None of this in any way relieves those who helped to create such front groups specifically in order to betray these people, to lie to them, to misdirect them, to “cure” them of their deep-seated idea that something is very wrong in the world.

The hard truth is that the betrayal was allowed by the person, starting with betraying their own right knowledge of what’s right in front of them.

This is the gamble the slavemasters were taking.

Could they so closely parallel the real thing (and yes, there is a real thing) that the person would make that decision to overlook that they knew this – whether Synanon or Scientology – was not it?

That’s what was on the “craps” table, that was the gamble. What could be lost was the possibility of it working, and the studying of the people who joined, the ability to fine-tune the propaganda and Procedures. Please. Do not underestimate just how important that was to them. But they were taking a big risk.

The big risk was that they could end up igniting the very thing they were trying to prevent – an out-of-control revolution. They wanted so badly to be able to study and control people like me and others they were willing to roll the hard six, to take that risk.

And it did happen, people did act in concert with what was propaganda to the slavemasters but was truth to the people. Some of them began actually being effective, and signs of that igniting did show up (particularly in some aspects of scientology guardian’s office activities).

In general though, whenever the slavemasters behind all this saw signs this was happening? They clamped down, they shut down that aspect and changed the groups – that includes both scientology and synanon, by the way. In scientology’s case, they raided the church, took a bunch of the Guardian’s office files (many of which were on them) shut them down, and replaced them with the new front men – David Miscavige, Mark Rathbun, etc.

So, when Cathy Mitchell asked what kind of people…she asked a very good question, even though her reason for asking it was more of a derogatory one.

The reason it’s a good question actually, is because it does at least point to the direction you need to examine. But, the real question that should be being asked is: What kind of people were the slavemasters looking for?

That’s the right question.

The following is a brief montage of video clips takes from Mark Bunker’s video of October 2, 2015, featuring a Q and A session with Mike Rinder (former head of scientology’s black ops department called OSA) and Sara Goldberg after a screening in Clearwater, Florida of Alex Gibney’s “Going Clear” movie.

It lets you see what some scientologists answers were to why they joined –

Notice the striking similarity to what Cathy and Dave Mitchell said about Synanon members:

“All felt they had moved into Synanon because of idealism or other sound motivations and that Synanon had betrayed them.”

Notice the repeated answers along the lines of “looking for something”, “something was missing” and that they “wanted to change the world”.

What these all clearly show is that the 3 people I featured all saw that something was wrong with how the world was. At the same time, they all also knew that something was “missing” – a something that would have at least balanced or even wiped out the wrong they were seeing.

This is exactly the kind of people the slavemasters were looking for. The ones that see that, the ones that know that.

Cindy Mallien (whom I believe is former Guardians Office?) posts as “The Hole Does Not Exist” at Tony Ortega’s blog. In a response to “Mike Leopold”  – a former covert operative for the Guardian’s office whose real name is Len Zinberg – Cindy described the qualities that people had that scientology “lures and grooms”.

If it’s any comfort, scientology’s control system relies on smart, creative, passionate, pioneering, forward thinking, progressive, compassionate, strong, tough, dedicated and loyal believers. While most have some of those traits, finding them all in one individual is rarer.

Yes, there were a few bonafide sociopaths among the sociopaths, just as there are in any group. But scientology lures and grooms those with these stellar characteristics. If you didn’t have all of that, you would never have been chosen.

Cindy Mallien posting as “The Hole Does Not Exist” on May 16, 2015, 6:20AM

Did you notice that word believers that I underlined? That word, added by Cindy, modifies all the former traits she mentioned. This is her particular slant on things, but it was a telling one.

She just insulted all those qualities, whether she meant to or not is beside the point – what I find interesting is the attempt to do so.they are the leaders that they fear

You see, the slavemasters were definitely looking for people that had all those qualities. Why? For one reason, because those are the people that see that something is wrong with the world. They are the leaders that they fear rising up against them.

But, the slavemasters were not after believers. They were after knowers. They wanted to turn them into believers – a far, far, weaker position.

I wrote about this in my post What Gets People Out Of Cults and What is the “Cult Experience” Really.

CIA agent Miles Copeland was being berated by his superior regarding the proper use of Propaganda, and his superior (Kermit Roosevelt Jr.) said to him:

But he had other points: first, we, of all people, should have understood what it meant to know something, and to appreciate the difference between knowing and believing.

Second, as propagandists we should have understood that ‘information’ must be fashioned to fit beliefs, not knowledge.

Mussolini knew the difference (‘I don’t want my people to know,’ he said. ‘I want them to believe’); so should we. But it was the beliefs of our targets that mattered, not our own.

– Miles Copeland, The Game Player, autobiography of a CIA agent.

Slavemasters view these knowers – not believers – as being a threat to them. Since they view the world currently through the filter of their mask they have a deep need to find some way, any way, to marginalize such people and “cure” them of putting their qualities to use against the slavemaster “society”.

You will notice that in Mike Rinder’s segment of the video (the last clip) he spends a lot of effort in trying to emphasize “they believed” or “they believe“. This is part of what I think sets off red flags as to what Mike is doing as compared to what the other two – the two women – were like. They were much more real.

When Rinder was in the church in charge of running black operations, he orchestrated propaganda campaigns where – among other things – he called critics fundamentalists and true-believers. So, now that he’s supposedly out of the church….yet here he is still using the exact same tactic with only a slight direction change and that’s it?

kara thrace - battlestar galactica.

How odd.

But why is he using the term believe so many times?

Because scientology was a cult. So, I guess what Mike would have us believe (pun intended here) now is that because it WAS a cult – this somehow makes everything we saw then into just a belief now?

If these people saw something was wrong with the world, saw something was missing, did join arms with similar-minded people within scientology…well, see, now….we’re supposed to accept that these are only beliefs and therefore should be discarded..

Say it ain’t so…

There are extensive efforts that I have been watching that are most definitely trying to make people think they were wrong to have those views in the first place. When really, the only thing wrong was that they disallowed their perception that something was wrong with this group!

  • Not their observations about the world.
  • Not their joy and happiness to have camraderie with other similar-minded people
  • Not their clear knowledge that something is missing.

These were not beliefs. And they were not wrong.

With the exception of the impassioned woman perhaps (first clip) the other two all seem to have forgotten that what they saw was wrong in the world still exists and is still missing.

Instead, they are focusing all that rage on scientology itself.

Not who was (and still is) behind it.

which happens to be the same people that are behind what is “wrong” in the world.

See that?

Replace one betrayal – the real one – with another one in the hopes that the person will drop the whole thing and literally turn against that knowing within themselves, and “rejoin society” as a proper world citizen.

This is sort of like a sleight-of-hand mentally. Look here…not at us.

Knowing who is really behind all this, I can’t help but think that this is very much like, no…exactly the same as Chairman Mao and the Hundred Flowers campaign.

I wrote about this extensively in Part 3: Dark Matter, but briefly, the British and Vatican slavemasters backed communism in China to stop it from becoming truly independent like America. In 1957, the slavemasters were worried, and even though they had ousted what they called the “nationalists” they needed to know where there opposition was – they were looking for the smart people, the natural leaders that might still be lurking within China ready to rise up and mess everything up for them.

So, they had Chairman Mao start a campaign inviting criticism to entice these people out. What they weren’t expecting is the tidal wave of discontent and hatred of their policies – millions of letters came in. They stopped in their tracks and took back the whole thing, rounded up leaders they had found and killed them, and submerged the entire country in an induced famine that killed 45 million people.

L. Ron Hubbard, when visiting China in 1928, said that the problem with China is that there were “too many chinks – derogatory slang for Chinese – there. Apparently, the slavemasters agreed.

After all was said and done, Chairman Mao said something incredibly revealing.

He said that The Hundred Flowers Movement –

“enticed the snakes out of their lairs.”

That is exactly what groups like Scientology and Synanon were created to do, and that is exactly how they viewed the people who had all the qualities listed by Len Zinberg:

  • smart
  • creative
  • passionate
  • pioneering
  • forward thinking
  • progressive
  • compassionate
  • strong
  • tough
  • dedicated
  • loyal

We were snakes to them.

We needed to be enticed into their trap.

And that’s exactly what they set out to do, only now it was here in America.

Dan Garrett, Charles Dederich’s right-hand man at one point, once said:

Nobody “graduates” from a religion.

– Dan Garrett July 19, 1974

Putting aside the fact that he looks like a Dostoevsky wanna-be, do you understand the underlying significance of that statement? Religion is the perfect trap – you are never “done”.

Which is right where they want you to be.

person on hamster wheel.

Richard Ofshe, who would come to play such a key role in the “expose” of Synanon in 1978, was born in the Bronx in 1941 to Russian Jewish parents.

While Ron Hubbard was hob-knobbing with OSS and FBI agents in the Dianetics Research Foundation, Ofshe was being recognized as “bright” in 1951 and put in a special class for gifted students in high school.

Richard Ofshe

Richard Ofshe 1970's.

He would spend the next ten years in and out of schools, and in 1961 he talked his way into being able to work on his masters degree in sociology at Queens University. This was the same year that Willis Harmon, Myron Stolaroff, and Al Hubbard began their special institute that fronted for MKUltra LSD testing, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

A couple of years earlier, in 1959, Sidney Cohen began having some concerns about LSD, one of which were the medically unsupervised LSD parties that were being thrown at Aldous Huxley’s house that had been made known to the public. A 1958 article on experiments at the nearby Long Beach VA Hospital had let slip that researchers were having “LSD-25 social parties.”

Huxley, Heard, Al Hubbard and Eisner called them “sessions” and they called the hallucinations they were having “actual memories of past lives” and that these were proof of re-incarnation. Aldous Huxley’s friend, L. Ron Hubbard had just published “Have You Lived Before This Life” in 1958. Considering he was a CIA asset at this time it’s not much of leap to figure out why – he’s going along with where these people wanted things to go.

Helping provide even further impetus to the top secret CIA projects going on to experiment on people with LSD, Cary Grant told Hollywood gossip columnist Joe Hyams that he had taken LSD over sixty times in therapy with Dr. Mortimer Hartman since 1958. His first time was in 1957, and he said that: “I was reborn”.

Cary Grant in NotoriousCary Grant in Notorious.

Grant’s experiences are quite telling as to what the slavemasters wanted to see happen, because of this obvious PR campaign they used him for.

He wrote: “I learned many things in the quiet of that small room. I learned to accept the responsibility for my own actions and to blame myself and no one else for circumstances of my own creating. I learned that no one else was keeping me unhappy but me; that I could whip myself better than any other guy in the joint.”

Wow, right? A slavemasters dream. No one to place responsibility on them any more. Everybody saying it’s all their fault.

Come on…

come on!.

How transparent can you get?

The even darker side to this is that it happens to be almost exactly the same result as Allen Dulles was promoting that Brainwashing looked for.

Three days before Cia Director Allen Dulles would launch Project MK-Ultra on April 13, 1953 when he approved the first sub-project that would begin more than a decade of the most heinous human experiments you can imagine – in a fit of hypocrisy he gave a speech at an Alumni conference of Princeton grads.

It would seem that the ultimate purpose of this treatment is to break you down completely and deprive you of any will power or private thought or self-esteem…they appear to place importance on the parallel appearance of repentance and self-condemnation

Brain Warfare Summary of Remarks by Mr. Allen W. Dulles at the National Alumni Conference of the Graduate Council of Princeton University, Hot Springs, Virginia, April 10, 1953

So, great! Cary was apparently brainwashed then. Repentance-in-a-pill. Seriously, how Catholic is that? There was even some good old fashioned biblical misogyny mixed into things too. Grant’s fourth wife, Dyan Cannon, told the Daily Mail that he had tried to “force-feed” her LSD and change her into the “shiny new wife who could effortlessly meld as one with her husband.”

Grant was one of the biggest stars Hollywood had to offer when he jumped onto the slavemaster druggie PR campaign – started with Huxley’s Heaven and Hell (1956). He helped to generate more interest in LSD than Timothy Leary ever did – especially with women, average women. When the Ladies Home Journal and Good Housekeeping interviewed him, Cary Grant was telling America’s homemakers that LSD was the greatest thing in the world. Just don’t ask him about his own personal life, which was an utter wreck despite all these “wonderful” LSD trips he was taking.

The same year that Grant begin helping to spread the LSD-is-Great propaganda, 1959, was exactly when the CIA tests at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto and Menlo Park began, with Alan Ginsberg and Ken Kesey being a couple of the first test subjects. Subjects were paid $150.00 for a LSD session.

Gregory Bateson, who had worked for the OSS, became the director of a hallucinogenic drug experimental clinic at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital. It was an MK Ultra project funded by the CIA. The project studied how psychoactive drugs effected people, particularly LSD, psilocybin, mescaline, cocaine, AMT, and DMT. The test subjects were paid to take the drugs then report on their experiences.

Foremost among his Palo Alto recruits was Ken Kesey. In 1959, Bateson gave Ken Kesey his first dose of LSD.

Ken Kesey organized a circle of LSD initiates called “The Merry Pranksters.” Kesey frequently entertained friends and many others with parties he called “Acid Tests” – involving LSD, Grateful Dead music, black lights, fluorescent paint, strobes and other “psychedelic” effects.

The Merry Pranksters toured the country in a bus disseminating LSD and building local distribution connections.

Robert Burns went by the name Robert Hunter – he was a Scientologist associated with Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. Along with Ken Kesey, Hunter was an early volunteer MK Ultra test subject Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto, California. Hunter was the first member of the Grateful Dead to take LSD.  98

Robert_Hunter_(Burns)_Scientologist,_MKUltra,_Grateful_DeadRobert Hunter

Ken Kesey was joined by Richard Alpert and Jerry Garcia. Out of this setting came the Merry Pranksters and the Grateful Dead. Kesey’s Pranksters were famous for administering the “Electric Kool Aid Acid Test” to large groups of adolescents attending rock concerts given by the Grateful Dead, or otherwise in touch with the Pranksters, as the group toured the United States.  98

Scientology Roots by Mike McClaughry, Chapter Twelve – 2 Hubbard’s Lifelong Intelligence Career (that’s L. Ron Hubbard, not Al Hubbard)

By the way, after a somewhat long hiatus from the press, Robert Hunter suddenly reappeared in an interview with Rolling Stone on March 9, 2015.

By his own admission, Hunter has long been an irascible character even in the world of the Dead, rarely doing interviews and maintaining a low public profile. “I was basically a maverick and a rebel’s rebel…”

Guess what he apparently felt the need to open up about? His LSD trips courtesy of the CIA.

I used to do psychology experiments — you could get $10 or $15 for doing them, and this was one of them, only this paid better. I had a romping good time. They wanted to find out was whether it increased my ability to be hypnotized. Just a couple of years back I found out it was military or the CIA or something, that they were trying to find its value as a weapon. For me they would’ve found out absolutely nothing. I told Jerry, but there was no way to get ahold of any of this stuff; it wasn’t on the streets yet or anything.

You could have humorously titled this part: I was a CIA Dupe by Robert Hunter but you know what else I found interesting? The part I colored orange.

Because, you see, it was exactly two years ago that I began my Brotherhood of Eternal Love/Scientology series, and it was me that documented that these tests he was partaking in were CIA MKULTRA tests. I was the only one who had, thus far, plus I connected in Grace-Marie Haddy (one of Hunter’s good friends back at that time) into all this. I think he read my posts, so I’m going to take credit for this explanation of his – including the one he also gave concerning his involvement with scientology. (Hint: he was in Scientology for more than a “short time”, as he wanted to recall it in this article).

Things weren’t all roses and puppies though with LSD, as you might imagine, and Dr. Cohen was having some legitimate concerns. Top of the list was that there began to be suicides associated with LSD-takers.

On 20 March 1959 Los Angeles newspapers carried a front-page story about the drug death of a freshman at the University of Redlands, eighty miles east of Los Angeles. The police investigation showed that he and five classmates had been experimenting with drugs, among them mescaline and LSD, in his dorm room. The title of the story itself was quite revealing:DABBLING IN WITCHERY KEY TO STUDENT DEATH:Redlands Scholar’s Recording Tells of Potions and Dreams.

That same spring, UCLA biochemist Clara Szego kept two of her students from taking part in a campus LSD experiment. She had tested LSD on rats and recalls, “It was perfectly clear to me that this was no innocuous little substance that you could recover from.” She forced the investigators to stop their experiments. (Los Angeles Examiner, 22 March 1959)

By the time 1960 rolled around, 3 men up in Palo Alto, that worked for Stanford Research Institute (SRI) were gearing up to start a front group for the CIA to funnel testing funds through – the decision had been made on high that it was time to target young college students.

Stanford had a long history of being it’s own kind of front group for the slavemasters, in bed with them on every kooky and vindicative intelligence idea they had going all the way back to Eugenics.

From my British Security Coordination Compendium articles –

In section III we discussed how eugenics had actually started in England in 1904, then came the Galton Laboratory for National Eugenics in 1907, and the British Eugenics Education Society.  It was three years later that the sister organization of the Eugenic Record Office was founded in the United States, both institutes used the research results of the Galton Laboratory of National Eugenics to propose practical applications.

We discussed how Oxford Professor William McDougall, a Cecil Bloc man, took young Cyril Burt under his wing as his protegee and instructed him in 1907 to begin studying and putting together mental tests to help with a nation-wide survey of physical and mental characteristics of the British people, proposed by Francis Galton (who originated Eugenics) in which he was to work on the standardization of psychological tests.

In the summer of 1908, Cyril Burt was directed by McDougall to go study the German eugenicist psychiatrists, such as Wundt, for a couple of years, which he did.

Cyril Burt then later started the Tavistock Clinic in 1920. Two years later, together with Montague Norman, Cyril Burt was involved in the founding of the National Council for Mental Hygiene (later renamed NAMH, then MIND). Montagu Norman, was a City of London man formerly governor of the Bank of England.

For much more about the City of London – see my article The Center of the British Empire – The City of London.

Montagu had worked very closely with with the League of Nations financial committee during WWI. This means he’s connected directly into Cecil Rhodes original secret society and it’s outer manifestation called the Round Table.

*See library article, The Round Table: What is it Really?

Cyril Burt then went on to mentor John Bowlby and Eric Trist, who helped head up the British assessment boards in WWII.

In Section II we learned that Colonel Robinson requested a plan in November 1943 for assessing prospective OSS personnel as to their physical, mental and emotional capabilities for their intended assignments. Robert Tryon is who was first assigned to recreate the British WOSB’s in the U.S. He immediately brought in James A. Hamilton, John W. Gardner, and Joseph Gengerelli, who already worked for the OSS, to assist with the program. They were quickly joined by Henry A. Murray, Donald Adams, and Donald Fiske, and together, they designed and planned the first assessment.

Robert Tryon was originally part of planning for the Psychology Division in 1941 which later became the R&A Branch.

We learned that the OSS Psychology Division (created in 1941) later became the R&A (Research and Analysis) Branch and was initially led in 1942 by Dr. James Phinney Baxter III (President of Williams College) and then later by Harvard historian Dr. William Langer in 1943.

OSS man William Talbot was Dr. Langer’s assistant from 1944 on, and then in 1946 he becomes the first head of the newly formed Stanford Research Institute (SRI) where his former junior Dr. Hamilton gets himself an “in” for a nice cush job there at Stanford, where he can then help out George White with MKULTRA LSD and Sex experiments for years.

Dr. Goddard had headed the Vineland school (Eugenics), his junior Robert M. Yerkes worked together with Sir Cyril Burt (1883-1971) supporting the concept of a racial superiority. Lewis Terman (Stanford University) also worked with Sir Burt on the Binet intelligence – supporting the concept of a racial superiority by intelligence levels. Terman sat on the boards of two eugenics organizations with Stanford’s first president, David Starr Jordan.

William Talbot was tight with Terman who was helping him with Stanford Research Institute.

In Section IV, we discussed how OSS man John William Gardner had helped to construct the personnel assessment tests for the OSS, moving on to Laguna Beach, California, to establish a center for processing OSS recruits.

Gardner then went on to Stanford Research Institute to head up more ‘research’, also becoming the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) from 1965-1968.

He was there at Stanford just in time for the jumping-off point of this new LSD research project, and his old Tavistock WWII buddy Eric Trist had come over too to help out, bringing his young son Alan with him. (Alan would hang out with The Grateful Dead while he was there).

Eric Trist was a founding member of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London. That is the leading British intelligence front group for a network of front groups involved in social engineering – the British slavemaster behavior modification attack on mankind. Stanford Research Institute is part of that network.   96

Eric Trist - TavistockEric Trist – Tavistock

Eric Trist was a fellow at Stanford University the whole year of 1961, in the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.  93   Some of the “advanced” studies were psychedelic drugs and Scientology.

At this time Stanford Research Institute was part of Stanford University.

Stanford Research InstituteStanford Research Institute sits on the street between Palo Alto, Calfornia and Menlo Park, California

Eric Trist was there just in time to get the ball rolling on CIA peddling of LSD aimed at America’s youth. He was another British intelligence agent provocateur – there to back up what Aldous Huxley had started. Eric Trist also acted as a case officer – he had his son with him, Alan Trist, who got involved with the Grateful Dead and Grace-Marie Haddy crowd. It was all part of a British intelligence operation aimed at America’s youth.

Willis Harman worked for the OSS and became a Professor at Stanford University after the war. In 1961, Harman began being a “futurist” for Stanford Research Institute.  109

In March 1961 Willis Harman began doing MK Ultra LSD research at Stanford Research Institute. Harman employed Al Hubbard as a security guard for SRI. Harman admits, “Al never did anything resembling security work, Al’s job was to run the LSD sessions for us.”

Willis Harman and Al Hubbard shared a goal “to provide the LSD experience to political and intellectual leaders around the world.”  37

That idea came directly from Aldous Huxley, who was the main British intelligence operative in America instigating this entire operation.

After first experimenting with LSD on helpless psychiatric patients at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto, they were now going to target the young people, such as the college students at Stanford. They were ready to launch the corruption of America’s next generation.

Scientology Roots by Mike McClaughry, Chapter Twelve – 2 Hubbard’s Lifelong Intelligence Career (that’s L. Ron Hubbard, not Al Hubbard)

The specific group that was launched especially to start this targeting students was named the Menlo Park International Foundation for Advanced Study LSD Therapy.

It operated both in the Bay Area and in Southern California. It charged $600 per treatment, and its founders, Willis Harman, Myron Stolaroff and Al Hubbard, dreamed of opening a string of LSD clinics across the nation. By the early 1960s at least a dozen Los Angeles psychologists were using LSD in therapy, including Aldous Huxley’s wife Laura.

  • PDF of google cache page of LSD before Leary: Sidney Cohen’s Critique of 1950s Psychedelic Drug Research Steven J. Novak Isis, Vol. 88, No. 1. (Mar., 1997). Original PDF of article was here, but link is no longer working.

Over the next three and a half years extensive data was gathered on approximately 350 patients who went through a one-month therapy program consisting of preparatory interviews and brief induced altered-consciousness experiences, followed by a single, relatively large-dose psychedelic experience. Clinical and test data were gathered at the beginning of the program, immediately following the psychedelic session a month later, and again at two months and six months post-session. The foundation also offered LSD therapy for $600 a session. In late 1961, the foundation released: The Psychedelic Experience: A New Concept in Psychotherapy. Myron Stolaroff was a graduate of Stanford, that’s why he was there. Al Hubbard had “turned him on” to LSD.

Note: This was where Robert Hunter first dropped some acid (took some LSD).

A little known man named Charles Savage was a Psychiatrist at the Stanford Veterans Administration Hospital where all this was going on, from 1961-1962, and then he became the “Medical director” at the new International Foundation for Advanced Study of LSD. Prior to being shipped over to the West Coast to help oversee all this monkey business, he had been the Acting chief adult psychiatrist at the National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda, Maryland, from 1953-1958.

Speaking of LSD, Psychiatry, and the NIMH –

L. Ron Hubbard had come along a few years earlier (the year he became an official CIA asset, 1955) and had propagandized about the evils of LSD and drug-taking, and the NIMH and psychiatry to his scientology followers, much like Charles Dederich would start doing over in the nascent Synanon. They were to attract the “anti’s” – the ones who wouldn’t take the drugs or who wouldn’t get on-board the whole psychedelic MKultra train, or in some cases, the ones who wanted to get off that train.

He wrote an article under one of his pen-names of Tom Esterbrook, in Ability magzine #3, March of 1955. You can see he’s well into his anti-psychiatry stance already – looking to attract those leaders who don’t think psychiatry is such a great thing and who won’t support it.

Hubbard as esterbrook, LSD, Ability 3 Extra (1955)

This way, you see, he could run many of their theories and procedures on people and they hopefully would never realize that they were in a psychiatric camp – literally.

So, what’s Charles Dederich doing over in Synanon during this time period?

Jack Hurst was now his #2 man and they were trying to figure out how to get a core group of staff together to then go “mainstream”.

Hurst had spent his first couple of years in Synanon mostly recovering from addiction, but he later told Richard Ofshe that:

“…then I took a look around . .. . I began to realize that I was in on what appeared to me to be a very fast-growing, exciting, unique, revolutionary corporation, and . . . I would have all the excitement of that . . . . I was investing my time in an organization that would carry me for the rest of my life, would allow me to live well, meet important people, and make a way for my wife, my children, and my brother.”

But first they had to get both the plan and the “right” people together.

This is where CIA asset Timothy Leary came in.

Timothy Leary was a fully witting agent (that means he knew) but he was also a handler for the CIA LSD experiments, which he finally admitted in 1978 –

If you look back, many things that we thought were accidents turned out were not accidents. The entire LSD movement itself was sponsored originally by the CIA, to whom I give great credit. I would not be here today if it had not been for the foresight and prestige of the CIA psychologists, so give the CIA credit for being truly an intelligence agency.

Timothy Leary High Times magazine interview February 1978

Besides Aldous Huxley, the MI6 agent, being involved with “Chuck” Dederich, there was Timothy Leary who happened to be being supported by fellow Brit-loving and former OSS head David K.E. Bruce’s wife’s family – the Mellons, particularly Andrew and Billy Hitchock-Mellon.

Timothy Leary, who would go on to be part of several MKULTRA projects (including getting the Brotherhood of Eternal Love going), was initially recruited by CIA agent Cord Meyer around 1947-48, when Leary and Meyer were being intelligence agents undercover as members of the branded “communist” group The American Veterans Committee.(AVC).

The Dynamic Duo – Meyer and Leary

Cord Meyer  Timothy Leary

Cord Meyer and L. Ron Hubbard were both engaged in the exact same propaganda tasks that same year.

The slavemasters had to generate a plausible enemy in order to justify the continuation of the spying and black operations around the world done by the OSS.

As Miles Copeland discussed in his book the new chosen “enemy” of the slavemasters was Russia and the threat of Nuclear War and world domination that would come from these “communists”.

These slavemaster propagandists often come up with new variations of the same basic idea as a slur, and just exactly when this hotting up the field was occurring about the new “enemy” was when Ron Hubbard jumped on board to help using the vehicle of “fiction”. Literally within only a couple of weeks after the CIA was formed (26 July 1947).

Picture-perfect propaganda – it incorporated both chosen elements: threat of nuclear war and communism/nationalism.

The title of the story was The End Is Not Yet appearing in Astounding Science Fiction magazine as a 3-part serial beginning August 1947. The characters in the story attempt to form a federation to prevent destruction of the world by atomic war.

end is not yet - Astounding Science Fiction August 1947

Hubbard’s characters attempt to from a group or federation to counter destruction of the world by atomic war, and further on in the story, Hubbard carefully promoted a world government. He had two different characters discussing nationalism as the cause of war and that it will destroy this world –

Fellow CIA asset Cord Meyer was engaged – at this same time – in pushing the more generalized goal of establishing a one-world government through the United World Federalists (front group formed by Cord Meyer in August 1947). This group also sought to “save the world through a limited federation before an atomic war destroys it.” – Time magazine, February 16, 1948.

This shows an almost exactly worded parallel at exactly the same time as what Hubbard is promoting in the End is Not Yet – putting Hubbard and Cord Meyer right in line with Allen Dulles and any other number of OSS/CIA agents pushing the same propaganda lines and establishing front groups to rope in some unsuspecting Americans.

Note: Hubbard also rather transparently portrays himself in his story (through character Martel) as a Messiah.

Ron Hubbard had another interesting “friend” – yet another CIA asset named John Starr Cooke who had helped funnel millions of Rockefeller dollars through the early Dianetics groups.

In 1956, John Starr Cooke, a bald man with a goatee and piercing gray eyes who was said to have taken LSD every day for two years while living in Carmel, California, gave Michael Bowen LSD for the first time. In 1964, Bowen visited Cooke at his home in Tepoztlan, the little village just five minutes from Cuernavaca…

– Timothy Leary: A Biography by Robert Greenfield, p. 300

Note: Cooke was also one of the enthusiastic backers of the idea of launching of the Menlo Park International Foundation for Advanced Study LSD Therapy which operated in both Northern and Southern California.

But in the meantime, living off Mary Oser’s income from Peter (Rockefeller) Oser, he had created a “tripping” center in Cuernavaca, Mexico, where he directed a small and dedicated band of acid evangelists called the Psychedelic Rangers. Apparently, his twin cravings for booze and psychedelics often left him both drunk and crazed in his wheelchair.

John Star Cooke-and-Pablo-Brenda-and-Bobby-Bishop-in-Mexico.

Note p. 66 of Total Espionage by Curt Riess, tells us that Cuernavaca was actually a hot spot for Mexican ‘society’ (meaning the rich) as well as a number of German nobility during the time of Hitler.

Cooke would press upon his Psychedelic rangers that they were…and this is ever-so-Catholic/Jesuit of him… the Good Guys battling the Forces of Darkness, they were soldiers in the all-out struggle that would ultimately determine the destiny of the planet.

Yet another master plan…

Igor - me have plan

The master-plan for his rangers was for them to seek out and target for ‘enlightenment’ selected individuals. Dick Gregory, Jerry Rubin, certain journalists so that they might ‘see the Clear Light’ – and present a more favorable view of LSD in the press.

They would give these people more than 10 times the normal dose for a full-blown acid trip (which is 100 to 20 micrograms) – they gave them 2,000 to 3,000 micrograms in an effort to ‘bring about a rapid and permanent transformation” of the persons…err….disposition.

And they all lived Happily Ever After –

vincent price and they all lived happily ever after.

Or maybe not –

vincent price in muppet land.

What this is all really about is screwing up America by targeting it’s leaders and future leaders. It is not to enlighten America – unless you consider becoming a slavemaster’s dream citizen to be “enlightened”.

This is also why we see fellow CIA asset Timothy Leary traveling (together with Anthony Russo)to Cooke’s Cuernavaca hot spot  to try out magic mushrooms for the first time. He needed to know what he’s trying “sell” America on.

In August 1960, Leary traveled to Cuernavaca, Mexico and consumed psilocybin mushrooms for the first time. Returning from Mexico to Harvard in 1960, Leary and Richard Alpert began a research program known as the Harvard Psilocybin Project. Leary conducted experiments with psilocybin on himself and a number of Harvard students.

In the fall of 1960, Aldous Huxley was a Visiting Professor in Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  99  That is also where Harvard University is located.

In November of 1960, met with Timothy Leary, Richard Alpert and Alan Watts. Huxley led the meeting, which was a planning session for using LSD to behavior modify America. Huxley told them to target influential people for the LSD experience.

From the discussions at the Harvard meeting, Leary put together the book The Psychedelic Experience. It was this book that popularized the term, “psychedelic mind-expanding.”   48, 99

Some of the other people that were frequent visitors of Cooke’s little kingdom, were Andrija Puharich (whom some of you may recognize as being involved with some of the first Stanford Research Institute mind experiments with scientologists Hal Puthoff and Ingo Swann for the CIA) – as well as Cooke’s financial connection into those lovely offshore bank accounts set-up by the CIA, Seymour “The Head” Lazare, a wealthy business associated of Billy Mellon-Hitchcock. Most were invited there at Cooke’s request by his right-hand man, editor of the San Francisco Oracle Michael Bowen.

Later on, Leary, together with Ron Hubbard’s friend Aldous Huxley, also engaged in experiments mixing benzedrine and nicotine – a top secret CIA project from back in 1950 that Hubbard had taken part in using earlier Dianetics followers.

Oh lovely

More kooky drug experiments.

vincent price - bats, the mkultra doctor extraordinaire

This one was in 1962 –

Another well-publicized experiment occurred in a University Chapel in Boston on the evening of Good Friday 1962. It was here that twenty theology [religions study] students took part in Walter Pahnke’s Psilocybin experiments. Ten students were given 30 mg. of psilocybin and ten others were given 200 mg. of nicotinic acid, laced with a small amount of Benzedrine to stimulate the initial physical sensations attributed to a psychedelic experience.

This experiment became know as “The Miracle of Marsh Chapel”. During the following six months after this experiment, researchers collected extensive data which included tape recordings, group discussions, follow-up interviews and a 147 – item questionnaire used in quantifying the characteristics of a psychedelic experience (Stevens 1987c, d; Leary, 1961c, 1961d; Koestler, 1961; Roberts & Jesse, 1998).

Since Dedrich is moving in the same CIA/British slavemaster/Vatican circles, it shouldn’t surprise you now to find out that by March of 1961, together with Dederich, Leary was pushing the idea of “liberating” prisoners by using LSD – called Project Contact.

leary 1961 liberating prisoners with LSD.

But increased contact only strengthened our convictions that an A.A.-type organization of ex-convicts is necessary.

The initial step of finding the small nucleus of men who are ready to make the dedication needed has not yet been taken. As a possible solution we hope to be able to send two ex-inmates to spend a month living at Synanon House, Santa Monica.

The Director of Synanon, Mr. Chuck Dederich, has expressed interest in this project.

 – High Priest, March 1961, p. 179 of PDF

But Dederich hadn’t actually opened “Synanon House” yet, but that didn’t stop him from publishing spurious statistics concerning his “success rate”. He implied a 40 percent success rate for the first 176 addicts who had entered Synanon and stayed. Dederich said that of the 176 addicts who by then had stayed in Synanon five days or more, he could list 70 who were drug-free. However, the actual statistics were no better than the programs then running in Federal programs – barely a 10 percent cure rate. Most ex-addicts reverted on leaving, as did the Korean prisoners of War (giving up Communism) in 90-days. (Robert Jay Lifton, Coercive Persuasion, the Psychology of Totalism).

But hey – why split hairs, right? Lord knows we wouldn’t want to interfere with the slavemasters propaganda campaign concerning drug-rehab programs with something inconvenient like facts.

eye roll.

It wasn’t until a bit later that enough support had been drummed up to open the new Synanon center on Santa Monican Beach.

Dederich moved to an empty National Guard building on the beach in Santa Monica. This did not go over too well with the neighbors, who complained of fears that Synanon would unleash non-recovered addicts into Santa Monica who came from other areas.

synanon santa monica 1961

In what was an obvious PR ploy – Dederich was arrested for operating in Santa Monica without a health license and out of zone. Convicted, rather than move as a condition of probation, he chose to go to jail.

Betty Dedrich and Tootsie Cavenaugh coming back from zoning battles.

He was then turned into a “public hero” and Governor Edmund Brown, Sr. signed a save Synanon bill giving Synanon an exemption from Health licensing laws.

Voila! Right?

Synanon was officially a go.

Synanon was allowed to have members kick addiction “cold turkey” without drugs, and the medical board was supposed to establish rules for Synanon but serprise serprise serprise? Never did.

Lots of money started funneling in from the “rich and Hollywood” – from people like Robert Wagner, Leonard Nimoy and Ben Gazzra, who came to Synanon to play the game with ex-addicts and ex-hookers.

Dederich had himself some other rather interesting high-powered connections to help get the latest and greatest slavemaster front group off the ground – Senator Kennedy, for example. Here’s some of his people at Kennedy’s Senate Hearing on Drug Rehabilitation in 1962.

The media was being saturated with Synanon this and Synanon that. Life Magazine did a 14 page photo spread, which Congressman Dodd called the “Miracle on the Beach”, and Columbia Pictures made a movie “Synanon, ” starring Edmond O’Brien, Chuck Conners and Stella Stevens.

They had changed their target “market” to younger people, the students- the kids in their 20s – just like the LSD projects were doing up in Menlo Park (Stanford Research Institute). They threw parties and concerts at the beach – basically anything that would get people in.

Richard Ofshe later pointed out that their age was important. Why? Because heroin addicts tend to drop the habit anyway as they get older. In other words, they simply outgrow the addiction.

This points clearly to that Synanon was not really about “reforming addicts” – so what was it about now?

Smugly sitting back behind-the-scenes, the slavemasters prepared to play with people’s lives on a massive scale.

The CIA was ready to study what they referred to as “freestanding” populations. That means they wanted to study thee and me and without us knowing that’s what they’re doing.

To do so, of course, they had to actually create something (more like several somethings) to attract us in. This is the Hundred Flowers Movement come to America – get it?

They thought they had the “keys” to controlling men’s minds – their decisions – and they wanted to try them out.

I want to move the story forward some more, from the CIA experiments in the 1950’s into the 1960’s and beyond. The 1960’s brought us a new variation in operational utilization of the techniques of brainwashing and sensory deprivation and so forth…and this is the religious cult issue.

But it was in the 1960’s that the idea of using these techniques on essentially freestanding populations was experimented with and the cults provide the laboratory setting for social influence processes where the people are not taken into complete physical custody.

What is Brainwashing again?

It would seem that the ultimate purpose of this treatment is to break you down completely and deprive you of any will power or private thought or self-esteem…they appear to place importance on the parallel appearance of repentance and self-condemnation

Now that they had their plans and ideas all set, the mind-control boys were moving on to testing it on the rest of us.

They wanted to:

  • conduct research into the conditions under which individual self-control could be weakened or broken and therefore open to suggestions.

You know, suggestions like the ones Cary Grant promoted, how everything wrong with the world is all our fault – not the slavemasters. We still see this even in today’s propaganda – tv series like Lost for example. Character Alex’s boyfriend is being brainwashed in Room 23, where he’s drugged and forced to watch a film that’s supposed to remake him into someone more acceptable. Check out a couple of the things that were being flashed on the screen –

“We are the causes of our own suffering.”

lost_-_alex_boyfriend_brainwashSeason 3, episode 7, ‘Not In Portland.’

And…. “Think About Your Life” – complete with little mental image pictures (aka Dianetics engrams etc.) representing what that means.

lost_-_think_about_your_life lost_-_think_about_your_life_2

Pretty much exactly what Cary Grant was trying to sell America on back in 1959!

This is what Synanon was now in total lock-step with – helping the CIA study the effectiveness of different techniques of brainwashing and…how was that euphemistically put? Oh yes….”social influence processes”.

In the early days of Synanon, when most members came in as “dope fiends,” their families would sometimes follow them in later, so this was perfect. Now, they had entire families to study how to break apart, influence – the whole nine yards.

You know, it’s interesting to note that not everyone in America was as google-eyed and ecstatic over all these fabulous ideas as the press and Hollywood would have us believe.

This same year of 1962 is when the term anti-psychiatry was very first coined, and not by one of those “cults” (like scientology) either. Some very real, very sincere people were starting to notice something was rotten in River City, and worse, were starting to speak out about it and organize

Of course, the slavemasters couldn’t have that.

So…. duplicitous men that they are –

vincent price - dual life

They later instigated some of their front groups to get their own anti-psychiatry movements going when things began getting “out of hand” from their perspective. Meaning the people were gaining ground. An example of one of these “we’re anti-psychiatry while working for the CIA to test brainwashing techniques on you” would be scientology, who started their “Citizen’s Commission on Human Rights” in 1969, for example.

Although real examples of psychiatric abuses were often used (that’s the tricky part, they used some truth) this was actually about giving the real thing a bad name, plus it was another way to try and divert anyone who might be a threat to them that way over into one of their controlled front groups. You can read The Two Robert Whitakers, if you’d like to learn a bit more about it.

The pattern that the Synanon “experiment” – as some called it – utilized (while selling itself as Utopian) should look quite familiar to some of you.

Courtesy of Chris Eskridge’s University of Nebraska/Lincoln class about Synanon –

  • 1.   Hammer away at people’s sense of self. Constantly make them feel as if they are not living up to the proper standard. Continue to inform them that they need to do better.
  • 2.   Place so many demands on their time and resources that it inhibits resistance. Too tired to resist, not enough time to organize thoughts on how to resist.
  • 3.   Classify any questioning of established organizational patterns as morally wrong.
  • 4.   Tap into their idealism, into their desire for a better world, a better self. If you can achieve, this, you  have found a powerful motivating force.

Look at this video again, in light of the part I put in orange –

Oh mighty, oh my – exactly the same.

ce dederich Hubbard_1957_we_begin_a_campaign_-_while_working_for_the_CIA

Both Dederich and Hubbard were referred to as “the Old Man” as a sign of respect – by the way.

Continuing with our list –

  • 5.   Subject the individual to organizational needs. Stress that individuals are part of the team, not individuals.
  • 6.   Encourage members to actively solicit new members for the organization.
  • 7.   Get members to constantly praise and support the organization and its leaders in public and denounce the opposition.

Chris then writes:

If an organization can achieve these, their members will do remarkable things for the organization, things that individually they would never do. They will even do wrong things if they are convinced it is for the betterment of the organization and it will ultimately achieve a higher standing. A law will be broken in the name of a perceived higher law.

And once individuals join the organization and become indoctrinated, it is very hard for them to leave without:

  • 1.   A powerful sense of guilt for abandoning the “team.”
  • 2.   Embarrassment of telling friends that they are not  longer involved in the organization after having been a powerful, vocal supporter for so long.
  • 3.   Fear of social incrimination and censure.
  • 4.   Fear of facing the world without this organization for it consumed so much of their time and their life.
  • 5.   A fear of having to adjust to a new lifestyle.
  • 6.   A fear of having to make new friends outside the organization and a fear of having to deal with old friends who are still a part of the organization.
  • 7.   A fear of having to assess prior behavior in light of new values and admitting mistakes.
  • 8.   An almost overwhelming, overbearing sense of eternal condemnation.

Sound familiar (to the scientologists out there)?

Really look at #8 – because this is where things get the ickiest they possibly could be.

This is what the skekses want to see happen.

Brain Warfare Summary of Remarks by Mr. Allen W. Dulles at the National Alumni Conference of the Graduate Council of Princeton University, Hot Springs, Virginia, April 10, 1953

What’s really particularly sick about this, and I imagine not many of you have ever thought about it this way, is that either one worked for them. Brainwashed in the cult, brainwashed (and having the above listed views) out of the cult.

The #1 thing that they wanted to get rid of in people is that desire to do the very things these front groups were created for, and…what they’re really afraid of, join up with some of the actual people the slavemasters are most truly terrified of and have been for a long time. By having them (and this would be correctly) hate the cults and everything about them that they joined, they wanted to make people decide to hate the idea of ever being involved in anything like that again, and hopefully?

Way down in their tiny, tiny, little hearts, the slavemasters cherished the hope that when the real thing begins to show itself – people would reject that too.

I’d say that’s wishful thinking on their part.

fingers crossed wishful thinking

It is quite literally a very real Holy War – the forces of Light and Darkness. You just haven’t seen much of the non-slavemaster side of it.

But you will.

page divider 2014.

I asked a question in the beginning of this, in relation to this hard six that the slavemasters were rolling. They were gambling they could gain that ultra-desirable control of men’s minds, their hearts, and most importantly – their decisions.

I’ll ask you again then –  Did they succeed…with you?

Their smug smoke-blowing aside –

I’ll bet they didn’t.

I think this is a good place to end this segment, we’ll be picking up from 1963 in the next one.

  1. Hi…
Not sure if this is relevant or not, but as i read Tony O’s blog comments, it was TheHoleDoesNotExist who wrote the comment about “If you didn’t have all of that, you would never have been chosen” and not Len Zinberg/Mike Leopold
